The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is recruiting a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Medical Director to lead clinical operations at the Wellstar Galisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity within a growing academic children’s hospital, offering the ability to shape clinical operations, expand programs, and influence pediatric emergency care delivery across a regional health system.
Position Highlights
- Lead clinical operations, quality, and strategy for a busy, high-acuity, pediatric ED (~27,000 annual visits)
- Faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience
- Direct involvement in faculty development, mentorship, and program growth
- Partner with departmental and system leadership on throughput, staffing models, and expansion planning
- Active role in education and academic initiatives, including an EM residency program and PEM fellowship
Clinical & Academic Environment
- Tertiary, 250-bed children’s hospital with full subspecialty support
- Level II Pediatric Trauma Center
- Dedicated pediatric ED (15 beds + 5-bed fast track; growth planned)
- Contiguous adult ED (73 beds, Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, ACC accredited Chest Pain Center)
- Robust support model:
- APPs and provider-in-triage workflow
- Pediatric pharmacy and Child Life services
- Strong Department of Emergency Medicine academic infrastructure:
- PEM fellowship (2 fellows/year)
- EM Residency (14 residents/year)
- EMS, US, Wilderness Medicine fellowships
- Advanced campus simulation center
- Dedicated research support staff
- Integrated EPIC EHR with departmental and institutional informatics support
Requirements
Qualifications
- MD/DO, board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (ABP or ABEM)
- Eligible for Georgia medical licensure
- Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical operations, quality, or administration
- Commitment to academic medicine and education
