One year position for extended exposure to Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at Rady Children’s San Diego
Rady Children’s Hospital Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is offering a one-year pediatric cardiothoracic surgery opportunity in San Diego California. This position will be supervised by the Division Chief, will include immersion in all aspects of congenital heart care and will provide coverage at Rady Children’s Hospital. The candidate will participate with the surgical in daily operations, care conferences, resident training/teaching and the division’s research efforts. This position will provide exposure to all levels of congenital heart surgery and care with goals to provide progressive clinical responsibilities and to publish one to two manuscripts during this year. Depending on experience and interests the candidate would also help provide care for adults with congenital heart disease at our adult affiliate hospital. The preferred candidate is a cardiothoracic surgeon with training in congenital heart surgery who desires additional experience and exposure. All candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of California.
The expected salary is $225,000.00/year. This position is incentive and benefits eligible.
Rady Children’s is the largest free-standing children’s hospital in California with a total of 551 active beds and is affiliated with the University of California at San Diego. The Heart Institute is one of the core initiatives at Rady Children’s and is composed of 30 physicians and supported by over 100 staff. The program provides all levels of congenital heart care and transplantation ranging from the fetus to the adult, at two sites that include Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and the University of California at San Diego. The program has a fully staffed and devoted pediatric cardiac intensive care unit/inpatient unit that provides 24/7 in-house attending level coverage. The Heart Institute is highly ranked for cardiology and heart surgery (U.S. News & World Report) and is one of the few programs reporting to STS that has a mortality rate lower than expected. The division performs 350 operations per year with 250-300 STS Index operations annually. The congenital heart surgeons also support another 50 to 100 adult congenital operations performed at UC San Diego Health.
